Elite Clubs National League – Overview
In 2009, the Minnesota Thunder Academy girls program was announced as an inaugural member club of the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL), the highest level of female youth soccer in the United States. The ECNL was founded by forward-thinking Directors of Coaching across the country who saw a need for change in and special commitment to improving the daily environment for American elite female youth soccer players. These directors came together and collaborated to build what would become the top female youth development platform in the world. The ECNL continues to be the most progressive and innovative development platform in the country.
Minnesota Thunder Academy is proud to be the only Minnesota club selected to compete in the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL).
ECNL Midwest Conference
The ECNL’s Midwest Conference is comprised of nine clubs that span across five states: Minnesota, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan. The Midwest Conference is the smallest conference in the ECNL. The conference competition season is from late October to Early June.

Financial aid may be available to those that qualify. An application with proof of income must be presented to the MTA Board of Directors on a yearly basis. There are also opportunities for players/teams to participate in fundraisers to help curb costs.
MTA is home to many players who participate in multiple sports and MTA celebrates the multi-sport athlete experience. The desire is that the player is respectful of the commitment to the team and be present at most team events. Athletes playing in the US Soccer Development Academy, ECNL, MTA Elite Academy, MTA Junior Academy, MRL, MYSA Premier, or MYSA Classic 1 level must be willing to be at a vast majority of the team’s training sessions and competitive events.
